Founded in 1938, the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) is a trade association in the government relations services sector. It represents more than 3,000 licensed, independent beer distributors serving every state and congressional district in the United States, engaging with government and the public. The organization is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, at 277 South Washington Street, Suite 500, and employs between 51 and 200 people. NBWA's mission is to provide leadership to enhance the independent beer distribution industry, advocate before government and the public, encourage responsible alcohol consumption, and provide programs and services to its members. The association has launched initiatives such as the Beer Purchasers Index, with initial release in July 2023 and subsequent updates, including February 2025.
