The Snyder Volunteer Fire Department provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to about 20,000 residents in a six-square-mile area of the Town of Amherst, a first-ring suburb of Buffalo. It operates as one of Amherst's ten all-volunteer fire departments and relies on volunteers to staff its responses. The department handles roughly 1,200 emergencies each year and is supported by more than sixty volunteer firefighters. Responses are coordinated from a single station and dispatched through the Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office. Based at 4531 Main Street in Snyder, New York, the department collaborates with other Amherst fire companies and participates in mutual aid with Cheektowaga, while coordinating with local police and EMS partners, including the Amherst Police Department, Twin City Ambulance Corp., Amherst Emergency Services, and the Amherst Fire Inspectors Office. In January 2025, Snyder Fire Department announced its 2025 Chief and Line Officers.
