The Snyder Fire Department provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical service to approximately 20,000 residents in a six square mile area in the Town of Amherst, New York. The department is one of ten all-volunteer departments protecting Amherst, a first-ring suburb of the City of Buffalo. The department responds to approximately 1,200 emergency calls each year and is staffed by over 60 volunteer firefighters. Operations are carried out from one central station that houses all the apparatus and administrative offices. Snyder Fire is dispatched by the Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office, or commonly known as Amherst Fire Control. The Snyder Fire Department works closely with other Fire Companies in the Town of Amherst and responds to Cheektowaga as part of Mutual-Aid. Additionally, Snyder works regularly with the Amherst Police Department, Twin City Ambulance Corp., Amherst Emergency Services, and the Amherst Fire Inspectors Office.
