The Robert D. Sutherland Memorial Foundation operates the Sutherland Bipolar Center, a specialty clinic focused on diagnosing and treating bipolar disorders. Housed at the University of Colorado Boulder, the center pursues a two-part mission to provide formal diagnosis, expert treatment, and comprehensive education to individuals with bipolar disorder and their families, while ensuring access regardless of financial means. Treatment is delivered by doctoral candidates in CU's Psychology and Neuroscience programs under the supervision of Dr. Alisha Brosse, employing evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Focused Treatment, Social Rhythm Therapy, and Psychoeducation. The center also emphasizes community education and professional training, hosting the biannual Sutherland Seminar Series open to the public. Since opening in January 2002, it has served more than 1,500 individuals affected by bipolar disorder and operates as a nonprofit based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
