Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is a public K-12 district based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with a stated goal of providing a quality education for every student. Formed in 1963 through the merger of the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County districts, it now oversees a broad network of 81 schools. The system comprises 42 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 16 high schools, and eight specialty schools. The district serves more than 53,000 students and is among the largest in the state, ranking fourth in North Carolina and 81st in the nation by size. In January 2026, Atkins High School, John F. Kennedy High School, and The Downtown School were named Magnet Schools of Excellence by the national magnet organization.
