Waseda University is a higher education institution located in central Tokyo, at 1-104 Totsuka, Shinjuku, Tokyo 169-8050, Japan, and employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people. It was founded in 1882 by former prime minister Shigenobu Okuma as an independent counterweight to national public institutions. Its alumni include seven prime ministers and leaders across government, business, media, culture, and science. The university engages in research and partnerships, including collaborations with Shimizu Corporation, BioPhenoMA, and the University of Queensland, and has launched a Digital Humanities portal to support academic activities. It participates in international events and joint research efforts, such as PTIF 2026, ISEV 2026, and a MEKIMEKI Exercise joint research project with Japan Post.
