Autonet b.v. automation for the automotive dismantling industry in The Netherlands

20 years ago autonet was founded with the purpose to automate the dismantling companies in The Netherlands. This meant that a stock management system was needed for used car parts. Of course that's easier said than done because people were still not accustomed to computers and certainly not to keyboards.
It was therefore necessary to introduce this in a gradual way, and first take away the ''keyboard fear'' by the gentlemen dismantlers who often never used a computer before, or even never had seen one. This was realized with 'de Onderdelenlijn', a central system where consumers can call to request a part or parts for their car. This requests were typed into a central PICK database system. Dismantling Companies could subscribe to 'de Onderdelenlijn' and they would get a terminal installed which made it easy to receive a request by one simple press on the button. This was over a Telephone line. All requests could be printed out optionally. 'de Onderdelenlijn' was the first in The Netherlands who brought request and offer together in an automated way, which was easy to understand for everyone.
