Urban Roots is a non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas, that engages youth in farming to produce fresh, healthy food for the community. On a 3.5-acre urban farm, young participants aged 14–17 grow roughly 25,000 pounds of produce annually and harvest more than 40 different fruits and vegetables, with 40% of the harvest donated to local pantries and soup kitchens. The program emphasizes hands-on learning around land, food, and hunger relief, providing opportunities for youth leadership and civic development as they contribute to meals for those in need. Established in 2008 as a YouthLaunch program and operating as a stand-alone nonprofit since 2011, Urban Roots focuses on transforming the lives of young people through farming and community nourishment.
