Universitas Terbuka is a public higher education institution in Indonesia that operates a distance and open learning system. It began as the 45th state university and was inaugurated on September 4, 1984, under a presidential decree. The university is based in Tangerang, Banten, and, in the second half of 2024, served 671,967 students across the nation and in 52 countries. Its enrollment includes Indonesian citizens who combine work with study, including those living abroad. In 2023 UT broadened its international reach through a collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in London.
