UNE Online Master of Social Work is a graduate program offered within the University of New England, a private, independent university with campuses along the southern Maine coast in Biddeford and Portland. The School of Social Work seeks to educate a diverse workforce of professional social workers who will translate a shared vision—sustainable, equitable, diverse communities grounded in universal human rights and social and economic justice—into practice. It emphasizes applied, evidence-based knowledge and aims to build interdisciplinary partnerships with communities to advance these goals. The program and its parent institution hold accreditation from recognized bodies: the Council on Social Work Education for the School of Social Work, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges for UNE. UNE offers more than 40 degree programs across health sciences, natural sciences, osteopathic medicine, human services, liberal arts, education, and business, situating the MSW within a broader higher education ecosystem in Maine. A notable development in 2026 involved establishing a 112,000-square-foot facility dedicated to interprofessional health sciences education.
