Trinity House operates as a charitable body with a statutory remit as the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, safeguarding shipping and seafarers while providing education, support, and welfare to the seafaring community. It manages maritime navigation safety by inspecting and auditing more than 11,000 local aids to navigation, licensing Deep Sea Pilots, and offering Elder Brethren as Nautical Assessors to the Admiralty Court. Rooted in a Royal Charter of 1514 that established Thames pilotage regulation and care for aged mariners, the organization is based in London and is recognized as the United Kingdom’s largest-endowed maritime charity. Its work serves mariners and the broader shipping sector by delivering cadet training, welfare for retired mariners, and safety-at-sea education. In February 2026, Trinity House participated in the MNWB Annual Awards, illustrating ongoing engagement with charitable activities and the wider maritime community.
