Tideland Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit electric cooperative formed through the merger of several eastern North Carolina utilities. It traces its incorporation to 1971, when Pamlico-Beaufort EMC and Woodstock EMC merged to create Tideland, with Ocracoke EMC joining in 1973 and Pamlico Power and Light transferring ownership in 1975. Today the cooperative serves more than 22,000 metered services across six counties: Dare, Hyde, Beaufort, Washington, Pamlico and Craven. It operates from Pantego, North Carolina, as a relatively small, member-owned utility. Its primary function is to provide electric service to customers within its six-county service area. A 2019 development involved a partnership with Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative to conduct aerial damage assessments of its infrastructure on Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.
