The Moth operates as a nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to personal storytelling as a means to listen, share openly, and deepen understanding among people. Since its inception in 1997, it has presented more than 65,000 true stories told live without notes, reaching audiences across 11 countries on four continents. The organization produces more than 600 live shows each year and circulates its material through The Moth Radio Hour, which has earned a Peabody Award, as well as The Moth Podcast. Through workshops for students, educators, adults, advocates, and professionals, The Moth helps thousands of new storytellers discover and articulate their voices. It operates within the nonprofit storytelling and arts landscape, delivering live events and audio programming to foster engagement through personal narratives. In May 2026, it announced a collaboration with New America for a Washington, D.C. event as part of its American Dreams 2026 Mainstage tour and New America's Us@250 initiative.
