GHRA is a retail-focused cooperative that supports independently owned convenience stores in the greater Houston area. It provides professional and commercial support to its Members and offers educational and service-oriented training to foster growth. The organization builds partnerships with traditional consumer packaged goods companies and other convenience store suppliers to create value for both members and suppliers, and it collaborates with government agencies to address industry issues, develop safety programs, and improve certification and permitting efficiency.

Based in Houston, Texas, GHRA has grown to roughly 2,000 members across 37 counties in Southeast Texas, with a significant share of local convenience stores as Members. In 2010 it established the Greater Houston Retailers Charitable Foundation to support families of area Peace Officers and Firefighters who die in the line of duty. In 2023, GHRA announced a collaboration with Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages LLC and supported a Houston Food Bank donation as part of the ABC13 Share Your Holidays campaign.
