Technovation Girls Minnesota advances software development education by bringing the Global Technovation Challenge to Minnesota since 2014, based in St. Louis Park and operated by a small team. The program guides teams of young women through a three-month, about 50-hour curriculum to imagine, design, and develop mobile apps, culminating in a startup concept presentation. It is accessible to beginners and free to participants, with no prior programming experience required for students or teachers, and it culminates in Appapalooza, a Minnesota event recognizing teams' efforts. In addition, Technovation Minnesota hosts App Days in fall and early winter to encourage teen girls to create apps and participate in the competition, engaging participants and mentors across the Twin Cities. The program has reached 1,374 young women from 19 countries who have completed the curriculum, and in 2018 Amazon partnered with Technovation Minnesota to present the Alexa Skills Challenge.
