The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is a U.S.-based non-profit established in 1998 to support medical professionals of Syrian descent through networking, education, and professional services. Its charitable arm, the SAMS Foundation, was launched in 2007. It has evolved into a frontline medical relief organization delivering crisis care in Syria, neighboring countries, and beyond through an integrated model that includes medical education and financial support for healthcare workers. Based in Washington, DC, SAMS operates field hospitals, intensive care units, clinics, birth and newborn care facilities, mobile units, and dialysis centers, along with mental health and psychosocial support. It procures and distributes medications and supplies as gifts in kind to sustain its programs and relies on partnerships to extend its reach. Since 2011, SAMS has provided nearly 20 million medical services and more than $207 million in humanitarian aid, and in 2023 it partnered with Johns Hopkins Medicine to advance mental health treatment in low-income settings.
