The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is a large public health research organization based in Cape Town, Western Cape. Established in 1969, it conducts basic laboratory investigations, clinical research, and public health studies to address South Africa's leading causes of mortality, including tuberculosis, HIV, chronic diseases, alcohol and drug abuse, and women's health. Its mission is to improve the nation's health and quality of life by promoting and conducting relevant and responsive health research.
