Sinai Memorial Chapel Chevra Kadisha is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California, that serves as the Bay Area’s only Jewish funeral home and acts as a chevra kadisha, a holy burial society responsible for the ritual cleansing and dressing of the deceased in a simple shroud. Its primary function is to uphold Jewish burial traditions, providing culturally specific end-of-life services for the Jewish community in the region. The chapel operates as a religious and charitable nonprofit and has historically acted as a unifying institution within the local Jewish community, extending its services to the entire Bay Area. With a workforce described as small to mid-sized, the organization sits within the Individual and Family Services industry, offering procedural and ceremonial support aligned with traditional practices. Sinai Memorial Chapel has a long-standing presence in the area, having opened in 1902 to meet the community’s need for adherence to Jewish burial customs when no dedicated funeral home or rabbi was available, and it continues to serve as a community-focused facility in the region.
