Shakespeare on the Sound is a performing arts organization based in Norwalk, Connecticut, that produces affordable, professional open-air productions of William Shakespeare’s plays and works by related authors in Fairfield County. The organization collaborates with local civic, business, and educational institutions to present an annual theatre festival aimed at reaching a broad audience and fostering learning, appreciation, and celebration of the dramatic arts. Its educational programming seeks to extend the life of Shakespeare beyond the summer festival through school, library, adult education, and art programs that engage people of varied ages and economic backgrounds. In addition to its festival activities, the organization endeavors to build community through the arts and broaden access to theatrical works across the region. A recent development involves partnering with the Darien Arts Center to offer new theatre offerings for Grades 5 to 12 during the summer.
