RTMC is a government agency within South Africa's Department of Transport that consolidates road traffic management across different levels of government. Its core aim is to pool powers and resources to reduce fragmentation of responsibilities and to bring a more professional and confident approach to the broader road-traffic system. The agency serves public-sector clients nationwide, addressing coordination challenges and standardizing practices in road traffic management and enforcement. RTMC partners with external organizations to advance road safety, including collaborations with the Sanlam Group to roll out the Scholar Patrol project in the Sedibeng District Municipality and with Fleetwatch on campaigns targeting truck and bus drivers. In 2026, reports indicate the organization is developing a disc-less system based on electronic verification, signaling a move toward technology-enabled identification and verification in traffic management.
