The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) is a regional transportation planning and delivery agency serving Riverside County, California. It provides transportation solutions intended to improve the quality of life and the business climate for residents and local businesses. Based in Riverside, California, the commission operates within the transportation programs sector to coordinate projects and services that enhance mobility in the region. Recent developments include launching an eight-mile smart freeway pilot on northbound I-15 near Temecula in June 2026, incorporating roadway sensors and an algorithm to coordinate ramp meters and suggest speeds rather than widening the corridor. In January 2026, HDR Engineering was awarded an approximately $80 million contract to conduct a Tier 2 environmental study for the Coachella Valley Rail Project, reflecting ongoing initiatives to advance rail-related transportation in the county. These activities illustrate the commission's focus on integrating technology and planning to improve regional transportation.
