The River District is located along the northern rim of Sacramento's Central City, just blocks from the State Capitol. It's boundaries are the Sacramento River on the west, American River on the north, the Railyards on the south and Sutter's Landing Park on the east.

The River District is a private, non-profit business association charged with managing and promoting programs to strengthen the economic and cultural well being of the area. The District manages an 830-acre Property & Business Improvement District (PBID), a special assessment district designed to fund services and programs specifically benefiting the properties within the District.

The District is governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors comprised of property and business owners. The River District Board also serves as the advisory body for the River District Redevelopment Area.

The organization is managed by Executive Director, Devin Strecker, LPM.
