Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the Puksta Foundation is a small nonprofit formed in 2000 to broaden access to higher education for Colorado high school graduates. As a 501(c)(3) educational foundation, it provides need-based scholarships tied to a commitment to civic engagement and social justice. The Puksta Scholar Program funds four-year scholarships at five Colorado universities—the University of Denver, Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Colorado Denver, and Metropolitan State University—and requires scholars to undertake a community project. Currently, 61 students are enrolled as Puksta Scholars, and the program has produced more than 210 alumni worldwide. The model spans five campuses across Colorado and aims to maintain access to higher education for students facing financial barriers while nurturing civic leadership.
