The Providence Preservation Society is a nonprofit organization in architecture and planning, based in Providence, Rhode Island, founded in 1956 to address the demolition threat to historic 18th- and early 19th-century houses on College Hill. Over time, it has evolved from a neighborhood-focused effort into a citywide preservation and planning group that advocates for neighborhood revitalization and the thoughtful preservation of historic resources. The organization engages with local communities and broader stakeholders to document and promote urban heritage, including initiatives such as multimedia explorations of Providence’s urban renewal era and activities that support heritage-related research and advocacy. PPS operates with a staff serving the Rhode Island region and has expanded its governance through the addition of new board members in recent years, reflecting ongoing efforts to guide its preservation agenda and community impact.
