Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island incorporates comprehensive classroom education with an operational, at-sea experience to enrich independent and teamwork capabilities of young adults, to include the young-at-heart. 

Oliver Hazard Perry is Rhode Island's own Tall Ship, providing our state with a 200-foot long, three-masted full-rigged sailing vessel to join the select fleet of Class-A size Tall Ships hosted by the nations of the world. With this extraordinary ship we can provide education at sea programs to youth of all ages while proudly advancing the Ocean State's rich maritime heritage.

The SSV Oliver Hazard Perry will be a US documented vessel, inspected and certified by the US Coast Guard. Safety standards for Sailing School Vessels differ from those of passenger vessels on a comparable route, because persons aboard training ships are not passengers but participant who fully share in the ship’s operation. SSV Oliver Hazard Perry will meet or exceed all safety requirements for a vessel of her size and class. No extraordinary fitness is required
