NGINX, based in San Francisco, California, operates in the IT services and IT consulting sector as a provider of a high-performance web server and reverse proxy designed to scale with minimal overhead. Its event-driven architecture supports high concurrency, making it a central component for traffic routing, load balancing, and caching in modern applications, with particular relevance to cloud-native and Kubernetes environments. The project is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and has an active community, with F5 Inc. as the primary sponsor. Its target users are developers and operators building scalable web services who rely on reliable traffic management in cloud-native contexts. The company supports its ecosystem through community initiatives and tooling, including the launch of kubernetes.nginx.org and a migration tool designed to help move from existing Kubernetes ingress solutions to the NGINX Ingress Controller. In 2026, updates to NGINX Ingress Controller and related components have been announced, reflecting ongoing work to support Kubernetes deployments and open-source collaboration.
