The New Vic Theatre is a small regional performing arts venue in Kalamazoo, Michigan, founded in 1966 by Ted and Mary Jo Kistler. It presents stage productions and annual holiday programming, including a landmark original production of A Christmas Carol that earned a Special Tribute from the State of Michigan in 1999, with a season running February through December 29 and a January Concert Series. The seating is intimate, about 100 seats per performance, and the modular auditorium supports flexible staging from round to proscenium formats, while climate control enables year-round operation. Since its founding, the New Vic has produced more than 325 productions, with well over 80% introducing Kalamazoo audiences to new works, including titles shown prior to Broadway premieres. It draws more than 10,000 theatergoers each year and, as a downtown Kalamazoo venue, contributes to the local economy while serving audiences across southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana.
