New Mexico Association of Counties is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that represents and serves New Mexico’s 33 counties. Based in Santa Fe, it supports and promotes collaboration among county elected officials and staff to advance effective and efficient local government, and it provides services such as legislative representation, research, lawsuit coordination, and training on administration and financing of county operations. The association also operates insurance pools for workers’ compensation and property, casualty, and liability, and conducts educational programs and conferences to assist counties in fulfilling their duties. Its activities aim to address county governance challenges and advocate for county government interests within the state. Since its founding in 1968, it has functioned as a statewide voice for counties, facilitating joint problem-solving and collective action across the sector.
