The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium is an environmental services organization based in Highlands, New Jersey, formed through an affiliation of colleges, universities, and other groups. Its mission is to promote the wise use of New Jersey's marine and coastal resources through research, education, and outreach. Since 1976 it has administered the New Jersey Sea Grant Program as part of a national effort that funds targeted marine research, and it was designated a Sea Grant College in 1989. Founded in 1969 as the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium, the organization supports education across levels from Pre-K through graduate studies, engaging about 30,000 participants annually. The consortium serves New Jersey students, coastal communities, educators, and policy stakeholders by delivering programs that address coastal issues, bolster marine technology, and improve science literacy. A notable recent development is a 2026 partnership with Rutgers University to create a program for high school students to explore aquaculture careers.
