Virginia Sea Grant (VASG) is a higher education program based in Gloucester Point, Virginia, that works to enhance the resilience and sustainability of Virginia’s coastal and marine ecosystems and the communities that rely on them. It serves as a conduit for scientific information, collaborating with resource managers, businesses, communities, and other stakeholders to provide and apply rigorous science to address regional and national coastal and ocean issues through research, public outreach, engagement, and education. As part of NOAA’s Sea Grant College Program, VASG operates within a network of 33 programs, funded through federal and state appropriations and project-specific contributions from local partners. The organization positions itself as a bridge between scientific knowledge and practical application, integrating research with outreach to support informed decision-making in coastal management. Recent activities include launching an Adaptation and Innovation Ecosystem for coastal resiliency and expanding platforms for information exchange in aquaculture, reflecting its role in advancing applied coastal science and community resilience.
