Nevada Land Trust is Nevada’s first independent nonprofit conservation land trust, founded in 1998 and based in Reno. It protects land and related resources—water, wildlife, recreational, historic, scenic, and agricultural values—through a combination of conservation easements and ownership of protected properties. Since its founding, it has conserved more than 42,000 acres and associated water rights across sites such as Tahoe Meadows, Granite Mountains, Little High Rock Canyon, the Truckee River corridor, Washoe Valley, and the eastern Sierra in Douglas County, and it holds easements on working ranches in Churchill and Washoe counties while owning lands around Great Basin National Park near Baker and helping enlarge Reno parks like Rancho San Rafael and Bartley Ranch. It is an Accredited Land Trust, reflecting adherence to professional standards and practices.

Its projects extend from Lake Tahoe’s shores and northern Washoe and Humboldt counties into neighboring California and Oregon, with urban efforts concentrated in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville. Restoration work addresses wildlife habitat, including springs on remote acquisitions and stream corridors damaged by wildfires in the region, such as those around Caughlin and Washoe Drive. Nevada Land Trust collaborates with landowners, communities, and agencies to conserve and restore both individual properties and larger landscapes comprised of multiple parcels.
