The NC State Ports Authority is a regional public port operator in the United States that oversees North Carolina’s port facilities in Wilmington and Morehead City, along with an inland terminal in Charlotte. It connects the state’s consumers, businesses and industry to global markets and serves as a focal point for attracting new economic activity in North Carolina. Its activities support 87,700 jobs and generate $687 million in state and local tax revenues annually. Wilmington’s container-terminal expansion includes four post-Panamax and three neo-Panamax cranes, upgraded berths, and a widened turning basin, with on-terminal plugs for refrigerated containers. Morehead City’s breakbulk facilities offer Norfolk Southern rail access on the docks, connections to major north-south and east-west interstates, and a 45-foot navigational channel with docks just under four miles from open sea. The Charlotte Inland Port links customers to regional distribution corridors, enabling next-day transit between Wilmington and Charlotte via the Queen City Express and supporting access to I-85 and I-77 corridors. In May 2024, the authority named Jonathan Graham as Chief Financial Officer.
