NatureScot is a Scottish government body charged with safeguarding Scotland's natural environment, helping people enjoy and value it, and promoting sustainable use. It reports to Scottish Government Ministers and, through them, to the Scottish Parliament. Much of its work is conducted in partnership with local authorities, other government bodies, businesses, community groups, land managers, and a wide range of representative organisations. Based in Inverness, Scotland, NatureScot operates at the intersection of policy and on-the-ground stewardship. Its activities include providing grants, conducting research, offering advice and information, handling a broad range of casework, managing designated sites, producing publications, issuing licences, and supporting interpretation. The organization pursues priorities set out in its corporate strategy, aiming to benefit both people and nature through collaborative action. A notable recent development is the March 2026 publication of A Framework for Advancing Green Health in Scotland, produced in partnership with Greenspace Scotland and Public Health Scotland to align natural environment efforts with public health goals.
