Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Municipal Building Commission oversees the historic City Hall and Hennepin County Courthouse, collectively known as the Municipal Building. Established by Minnesota statutes as an independent board, it has stewarded the structure since 1904 and is governed by four members: the mayor of Minneapolis, the chair of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, and one appointee each from the county and the city who serve during their appointment. Its mission centers on operating, maintaining, and preserving the landmark while ensuring a safe and functional environment for government employees, citizens, and elected officials. Beyond maintenance, the MBC endeavors to reintroduce the building's history to the public through free tours, events, and exhibits that highlight its turn-of-the-century architecture. In June 2024, the Municipal Building earned a heritage category award from the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects, honoring its design by Matthews & Matthews Architects.
