Stagebridge is a nonprofit performing arts organization based in Oakland, California, focused on engaging older adults and fostering intergenerational exchange. It is entering its 30th season as the nation’s oldest senior theatre company, with performers ranging from about 50 to 90-plus. The company provides theatre arts classes, workshops, healthy aging programs and public performances designed to present positive images of aging and to narrow the generation gap. Since its founding in 1978, Stagebridge has produced more than 30 original plays for over 300,000 attendees in senior centers, hospitals, schools, clubs and theatres. It operates the Performing Arts Training Institute, which won the MetLife Mind Alert Award in 2009. The organization also runs the See Me! healthy aging program to train medical professionals to see older adults as people, is the West Coast representative of TimeSlips, and offers a summer Performing Arts Camp for adults 50+.
