The City of Maroondah is a local government authority located in Ringwood, within Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs in Victoria. It spans about 61.4 square kilometres and serves a population of roughly 109,575 people across 42,898 households. Its core role is to deliver services to residents, advocate to higher levels of government, and enable outcomes by partnering with community members, businesses and other organizations. The city hosts more than 9,000 businesses, the majority of which are small enterprises, with manufacturing, retail and health care among the largest employment sectors. The city is culturally diverse and has rising numbers of overseas-born residents from Burma, China, Malaysia, India, Thailand and Iran, including the largest Burmese community in Melbourne’s eastern region. The municipality was established in 1994, is divided into three wards with three councillors each, and the last council election was in 2012, with the council serving until 2016; recent collaborations have supported community events such as the 2023 Maroondah Festival through partnerships with external organisations.
