The Lowell Association for the Blind is a non-profit organization serving blind and visually impaired individuals in the Greater Lowell and Merrimack Valley region. Established in 1923 and based in downtown Lowell, it operates a 4,000-square-foot facility used for meetings, adaptive equipment training, Braille lessons, and a radio/recording studio. The organization relies on support from the United Way of Merrimack Valley, memorial donations, foundations, and program funding. LAB's mission is to support, educate, and nurture blind and visually impaired residents to enrich their lives and gain independence, while also explaining to the broader public the challenges they face and the fact that they are productive members of society. In 2020 the organization entered a partnership with Juniper Networks and the Greater Lowell Community Foundation to bolster technology for the Senior Teen Employment Program's computer training sessions.
