Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU) is a statewide, non-profit association that brings together municipally owned and operated electric, gas, water, wastewater, stormwater, and telecommunications utilities across Kansas. Founded in 1928 by its member utilities, KMU serves the needs and interests of publicly owned utilities. Membership is open to Kansas municipalities that own and operate their own utility systems, with additional opportunities for companies and organizations that support municipal utilities. By coordinating and pooling resources, KMU aims to advance and protect the utilities and the communities they serve. Based in McPherson, Kansas, KMU functions as a resource and coordinating body for municipally owned utilities. A recent development involves KMU, alongside Kansas 811, planning the 2025 Kansas Utility Locate Rodeo to be held at KMU's Training Center in McPherson on September 11, 2025.
