The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is a Japanese public administrative institution that supports science and technology policy and information dissemination. Its history traces to two predecessor organizations: the Japan Information Center of Science and Technology (JICST, founded in 1957) and the Research Development Corporation of Japan (JRDC, founded in 1961), which disseminated science information and promoted basic research as well as new technology development and exchange. In 1996 the two organizations merged to form JST, which was reorganized in 2003 into an independent administrative institution. Based in Japan with a small-to-mid-sized staff, JST continues to oversee national science and technology initiatives and related information services. A notable development involves its JST Erato program, including a 2023 partnership with Infleqtion, Inc. to advance quantum-related research.
