IPBES is an independent intergovernmental platform that provides policymakers with objective scientific assessments on biodiversity, ecosystems, and the benefits they provide to people, along with tools and methods to protect and sustainably use natural assets. The organization organizes its work into assessments, policy support, capacity building, and communications to strengthen knowledge foundations for policy decisions that affect conservation, sustainable use, and long-term human well-being. Based in Bonn, Germany, IPBES serves governments and stakeholders across its member states, addressing global and regional biodiversity challenges and offering methodologies to inform environmental policy. Since its founding in 2012, IPBES has supported the development of major reports and collaborative efforts, including notable assessments and joint initiatives with other international bodies, with recent activity highlighting its ongoing role in evaluating invasive species and broader biodiversity issues.
