The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is a large nonprofit labor union in North America that represents workers across a broad range of occupations. Founded in 1903 through the merger of two team driver associations, it has grown to organize both private and public sector workers and to seek improved wages and working conditions for its members. Beyond negotiating contracts, the union also manages pensions, oversees safety and health initiatives, conducts community outreach, and engages in governmental affairs and communications on behalf of workers. The organization is based in Washington, District of Columbia, at 25 Louisiana Avenue Northwest. Recent activity in 2026 shows the union pursuing several labor actions and negotiations, including lawsuits against UPS and Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and unfair labor practice charges against Cargill, as well as a tentative agreement with First Student.
