The Directors Guild of America is a labor organization that represents the creative and economic interests of directors and members of the directorial team across film, television, commercials, documentaries, news, sports and new media. It protects both financial rights and artistic control for its members, which number over 19,000 worldwide. Founded in 1936, the guild has grown into a leading global association for directors and the broader directorial workforce, including assistant directors, unit production managers, associate directors, stage managers, and production associates. The organization is based in Los Angeles, California. 

 In March 2026, the DGA announced the launch of the 2026 Director Development Initiative Television Mentorship Program. This development signals ongoing efforts to support members' professional development and engagement in television.
