Established in 1978, the InterFaith Council of Metropolitan Washington coordinates eleven historic faith communities in the Washington, D.C. area to foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and a sense of shared community while promoting justice across the region. These traditions span Baha’i, Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Latter-day Saint, Protestant, Roman Catholic, Sikh, and Zoroastrian communities. Through coalition-building, education, training, and advocacy, the council aims to unite faith leaders to speak and act together and to publish resources for the broader community. Based in Washington, D.C., the organization hosts public programs such as concerts, lectures, award ceremonies, and dialogues that accompany its coalition work. Recent activity includes participation in the 2026 Honoring Visionary Leaders Gala, where Executive Director Dr. Sousan Abadian opened the event with remarks on pluralism, civic responsibility, and interfaith solidarity.
