The Institute for the Redesign of Learning is a mid-sized organization based in South Pasadena, California, operating in the field of individual and family services. It traces its origins to 1974, when Dr. Nancy J. Lavelle founded the Almansor Education Center to support students through a flexible curriculum and targeted supports. Under the Almansor Center umbrella, it delivers a continuum of care through programs such as early childhood education, community outreach, a non-public special education day school, mental health services, and transition and employment services, with Westmoreland Academy recently added in Pasadena. The organization’s mission is to empower individuals with special needs to take charge of their learning and lives, while offering learning opportunities for families and professionals. Annually, it serves over 3,700 children, students and clients across greater Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley, supported by a collaborative network of families, caregivers, staff, and community partners.
