Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL) is a computer science research and development group based on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Over more than three decades, it has focused on advancing high-performance computing, addressing challenges such as parallelism, data management, energy efficiency, and resilience. The organization conducts research into algorithms and libraries for multi-core and heterogeneous computing alongside performance evaluation and benchmarking for high-performance computing, with emphasis on parallel and distributed computing and fault tolerance. Its work supports discoveries in fields including life sciences, climate science, energy exploration, and materials science, among others. While operating within an academic setting, ICL collaborates with the broader research community to develop tools and technologies that enable supercomputing-based research.
