The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) is a cross-border research and technology organization established in 2009 by Spain and Portugal, with its headquarters in Braga, in northern Portugal. It operates within an international legal framework to conduct interdisciplinary nanotechnology research and to apply nanotechnologies for societal benefit. Its strategic research areas aim to deepen understanding of fundamental phenomena and to translate these insights into technologies addressing global challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as clean water, clean energy, zero hunger, and good health. The INL community comprises around five hundred researchers and staff. Its mission encompasses conducting high-quality nanotechnology research and engaging with society through technology transfer and public outreach, guiding the organization toward new research directions at the intersection of established fields. In 2026, INL launched an open innovation programme for industry to foster collaboration and practical applications of its research.
