Dr. Walter Chitwood, one of only a handful of board certified implant dentists in Tennessee, is both a skilled dental practitioner and an educator to patients and fellow dentists. He has held teaching positions at several outstanding dental programs, including Tennessee State University, and the Misch Implant Institute.

Since his graduation from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1982, Dr. Chitwood has directed his full energies toward developing an implant dentistry practice and to promoting the field of implant dentistry. It is his desire that Implant & General Dentistry of Middle Tennessee, with its blend of state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and techniques, can effectively provide the many benefits offered by implant dentistry.

Over the years, Dr. Chitwood has received many honors, such as being recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology, Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and a Fellow of the Misch Implant Institute. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Chitwood is a consultant on infection control to medical and dental product manufacturers and is a nationally recognized authority on aseptic technique for implant dentistry. Dr. Chitwood routinely lectures around the country for various association annual meetings, state meetings, and study groups.
