The IHK für München und Oberbayern is a regional chamber of industry and commerce that operates as a public-law corporation. It represents about 390,000 member companies in Munich and Upper Bavaria, making it the largest IHK in Germany and one of Europe’s largest business networks. The organization aims to create favorable conditions for the long-term, sustainable success of commercial enterprises in the region and serves as a conduit to policymakers and public administration. It is based in Munich, Bavaria, at 2 Max-Joseph-Straße. Governance centers on the IHK Vollversammlung, the full assembly whose members are elected by member companies for five-year terms, with one vote per company. As a body under public law, the chamber operates in the regional economic interest and engages with politics and administration to reflect entrepreneur concerns. Substantial voluntary involvement underpins its work, with about 12,000 entrepreneurs contributing through the assembly, regional and specialized committees, and vocational and further education activities. Its guiding principles emphasize transparency, fairness, performance, credibility, and objectivity, aligned with the concept of the honorable merchant.
