IGNITE National operates in the civic and social sector with a focus on empowering young women and gender-expansive youth to influence policy and navigate the systems that affect their lives. Founded in 2010 and based in Oakland, California, the nonprofit aims to help participants transform policies by building political capacity. Since its inception, IGNITE has reached more than 46,000 young people across 231 college campuses and 70 high schools in 44 states. The organization provides programs that teach participants how to use political power, shape policies, and advocate for change, including running for public office and mobilizing peers to participate in the political process. Its work centers on young women and gender-expansive youth on college campuses and in high schools nationwide. In 2022, IGNITE announced the addition of several regional fellows in Oklahoma City and Las Vegas and named a Northeast Program Coordinator, signaling ongoing geographic expansion and leadership development.
