The HHV-6 Foundation is a nonprofit research organization based in Santa Barbara, California, founded in 2004. It promotes scientific exchange among virologists and clinical researchers by hosting a large international conference every other year, maintains a repository of reagents to support HHV-6 research, and offers pilot grants to help investigators generate preliminary data for larger grants. Leadership includes Scientific Director Dharam Ablashi, a co-discoverer of HHV-6, and Executive Director Kristin Loomis, who has served since the organization’s founding; the Scientific Advisory Board comprises leading HHV-6 experts.

The foundation targets researchers studying HHV-6 and clinicians treating related conditions, as well as patients and families affected by HHV-6 disease, and aims to raise physician awareness of HHV-6 associated illnesses while encouraging antiviral development. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity operating in the research services sector, it supports collaboration and progress through its grantmaking, reagent access, and conferences.
